Why a woman in her 20’s gave up a $200,000+ job as a lawyer to learn to code.
I came across a video where Career game changer talks about changing her career. She went from a multiple figure salary into tech. I learned a few things when listening to the video linked above, I thought I might share.
Burnout
Burnout is real. I remember when I first felt it during my GCSEs (not sure what the American equivalent is). I would take 2–3 tests a day and have to go back home to study for the next two the day after and then all of a sudden I had a free day but I didn’t have a free day because there were three tests tomorrow I wasn’t prepared for. Or that’s how it all felt.
Work is important, so is studying when you have important tests. Something needs to be said for not enjoying the present. As she describes thinking of your next holiday or not having a personal life because of work and if you don’t take that time you fall behind in work.
I remember during my GCSE’s I took a weekend break. I had become very ill. for 2 days. I went into school with a test on Monday and felt completely underprepared. That was due to my mindset a lot more than actually being unprepared but all I took was 2 days off…
